A natural gesha from the Monte Oro farm located on the slopes of the Atitlán volcano in Guatemala. It is a coffee with floral notes accompanied by coconut and raspberry.
The Farmer is Mario Alarcón
Mario is the fifth generation of the Melendez family to be a coffee farmer. In 2008, he took over the family business and took the reins of the Monte de Oro farm. Until then, his mother had been running the farm entirely since the death of Mario’s grandfather in the 1980s. At that time, she was the first woman to run a farm in the region and had to face many controversies alone.
Mario’s background is in industrial mechanical engineering. He made it a point of honour to put an end to the excessive use of water in the preparation of wet-process coffees. The new Monte de Oro factory was therefore founded using state-of-the-art machinery with a simple yet efficient process that has significantly reduced the use of water in production.
If you had to sum Mario up in two words, they would definitely be passion and application!
