About this coffee
Unique geisha coffee from the Hacienda Sonora. This time processed as ‘natural’, which makes the coffee especially exciting. “Intense” is the best way to describe this coffee.
Intense tropical aromas, intense fruity mango on the tongue and intense syrupy body. This geisha coffee is a full taste explosion – it practically jumps out of the cup. With notes of passion fruit and honey, it is balanced by a persistent sweetness.
‘Natural’ means that the fully ripe coffee cherries are spread out on the patio after harvesting with their skin, i.e. including their pulp, dried by the sun and then sculptured. During this process, the coffee beans absorb the full aroma of the fruit in the form of the fructose present.
About the farm
Alberto Guardia has been growing coffee for over 50 years. His family farm – with the melodious name Hacienda Sonora, is located on the fertile foothills of the famous Poas Volcano in the West Valley, Costa Rica. It is mostly surrounded by untouched jungle. The preservation of the rainforest is very important to the Guardia family. Therefore, they simply let it grow and with in it their coffee plants grow. The coffee trees ripen excellently under the protective roof of the shady trees: they receive enough moisture to develop optimally. A Pelton turbine driven by a stream is used as the energy source for the entire finca. This raging, beautiful water supplies the entire finca with ‘100% Green Energy’. We have known the Guardias for a number of years now and are delighted to have met such an extraordinary family who, with understanding and love of nature, produce unique coffees every year.
